The Mission

In the media our African American culture is not well represented. In the world of travel, it is altogether non-existent. This leaves our youth, in my opinion, with what I like to call, “chocolate-doubt”.

                choc-o-late-doubt – (chôk-lit dout)
                n.

                                A lack of faith or confidence in black people;
                                the act or state of doubting the existence of real black people;

                                lack of confidence in blacks’ motives, abilities, etc.
                v. or adj. chocolate-doubt-ing, chocolate-doubt-ed, chocolate-doubt-s
                n. chocolate-doubter

It is the hope of Chocolate Compass to debunk those chocolate-doubts by hand-picking chocolate kids from predominantly chocolate communities, slapping a passport in their hands and taking them on national/international adventures to explore, do volunteer work and to meet successful chocolate people along the way.

The goal of Chocolate Compass is to:
  • Take chocolate kids on eye-opening world adventures;
  • Change the way they think about and view the world;
  • Volunteer and promote service projects;
  • Highlight successful black people around the world in numerous fields;
  • and Encourage them to not only dream bigger, but to dream farther.

Around the WORLD & BLACK will be an accompanying blog and web show that will follow these real-life youth on an unscripted journey, exploring the world and finding fellow African Americans who are forging success in it.

More than just travel, Chocolate Compass will conduct interviews with successful African American figures from around the world in all different fields, as well as report on landscapes, cultures, and culturally unique foods.

The students will be the ones conducting the interviews and creating personal blog entries alongside the ones that will be created by the Chocolate Compass crew. Participants will also be required to journal and video log their experiences along the way.

Though Chocolate Compass' main focus is to provide underprivileged youth with once in a lifetime travel experiences, our ultimate aim is to encourage, inspire and uplift.

Join us!!
As many as we can take, wherever we can take them: that's our motto. With the help of partners and donors Chocolate Compass can succeed in our mission. We can jump start the journeys of an underrepresented youth in a misrepresented world.

Help us rid the world of chocolate-doubt and create a new trend of chocolate-faith!
